One thing every baker uses a lot of is vanilla extract. We had NO IDEA how easy it is to make your own vanilla until we tried this recipe. It is perfect for a holiday gift too!
Homemade Vanilla Extract
Ingredients:
- 6 vanilla beans
- 2 cups vodka
Directions:
Leaving one inch of the vanilla bean untouched at a single end, slice the bean in half using a small, sharp knife. Place beans into a jar or bottle and completely cover then with vodka. Store for 60 days before use. Shake often to redistribute the vanilla flavor as it will naturally settle at the bottom.






Vodka?
I would have never guessed vodka. I'll have to look at the label now to see what commercial manufacturer's use.
